I’m Claire from Positive Pilates and I teach at the Pilates Workshop in St Albans.
I’d been doing Pilates for around 12 years & was constantly lecturing people on how everyone should be doing it.

I started Pilates to help with the shoulder and neck pain and to compliment the other exercise I was doing.

Initially I was attending classes in a gym with around 30 clients per class and I didn’t feel I was getting the attention I needed to progress.

When I relocated I started attending studio classes with a Body Control Pilates teacher. I was blown away with the difference being in a small class made to my progress and the increased benefits I took from the exercises. I fell in love with Pilates even more!

In 2015 I finally decided to put my money where my mouth is and train to be a teacher.  I had to put this on hold as I became pregnant but sadly like many, many women I had a miscarriage.

It was a really awful time in my life, but I found Pilates helped me focus on my body and believe in it again. I completed my teacher training with Body Control Pilates in 2016.
In 2017, I left my stable, secure, boring job & became a full time, self employed Pilates Teacher! It was scary but I’m so glad I did.
In a bit of a twist this coincided with me becoming pregnant again.  Thankfully this time all went okay and I have a gorgeous toddler, who was followed by another baby who is now 5 months old – my little lockdown baby.
Since 2016 I have trained in pre & post natal Pilates and continued to attend as many workshops and lectures as I can on pelvic floor muscles and function.
It shocked me how little I knew and how little women were told about what happened to their bodies during pregnancy and in the postnatal period.  The lack of support and guidance, particularly postnatally, is scary!  Women are just left to get on with it.
I know this is the case for many women out there so as part of my classes I try to help my pre & postnatal clients understand more about their bodies, including what is appropriate exercise for them (this differs from client to client) and how to restore & strengthen their bodies. I’ll also point clients towards the right healthcare professionals when needed.

Becoming a Pilates teacher is the best thing I’ve ever done. I love seeing my clients benefit from Pilates.

I have a hands on teaching style and an attention to detail to ensure all clients are getting the most benefit out of all the exercises in each class.

Come and try one of my classes and find out for yourself how good Pilates is!
